My Mission in Counselling
At Inner Wild Counselling, my mission is simple: to help people rediscover their inner strength, reconnect with themselves, and find calm in the middle of life’s challenges.
I believe counselling should feel safe, supportive, and grounded – never intimidating or clinical. My work is rooted in compassion, authenticity, and the understanding that everyone’s story is unique.
Whether we meet indoors in a traditional therapeutic spaces in Shifnal and Shrewsbury, or outdoors on a mindful nature walk, my focus is always the same: to offer a therapeutic relationship built on trust, acceptance, and genuine human connection.

Why I became a Counsellor
I’m Julie, a qualified counsellor and ecotherapist offering both traditional indoor counselling and outdoor therapy. I support people experiencing challenges with their mental health and wellbeing, as well as those who feel stuck in life and are unsure why. I am trained in self-harm and suicide prevention and I welcome individuals from all walks of life, each bringing their own unique experiences, stories, and difficulties
Before training as a counsellor, I spent over 20 years working as a hairdresser. This background has played an important role in my journey into the counselling profession, nurturing my ability to listen deeply, build trusting relationships, and truly hear people’s stories. My long-standing love of the outdoors naturally evolved into a creative and holistic way of supporting wellbeing through connection with nature.

Why I embrace nature
My curiosity about the impact of nature on mental health grew from personal experience. Embracing a simpler way of living and spending more time in the natural world had a profound effect on my own wellbeing. Feeling strongly about this way of life was a key factor in my decision to relocate from busy Essex to the Shropshire Hills in 2019, where I could live and work closer to nature.
You’ve found your way here, and I understand that deciding to speak to a counsellor can feel like a big step. It can also be a positive and incredibly courageous one.
Let’s have that first conversation today.

Why Choose Inner Wild Counselling?
Inner Wild Counselling offers a different way to experience therapy. Alongside traditional counselling in Shifnal and Shrewsbury, I offer Walk and Talk Therapy and nature-based sessions throughout Shropshire.
My approach is holistic and collaborative. Rather than trying to fix or change you, we work together to understand your experiences and what you need.
Inner Wild Counselling was created with the belief that:
- People heal through connection, not quick fixes.
- The counselling relationship is the foundation of meaningful change.
- Support should be accessible, warm, and down-to-earth.
- Nature can be a powerful companion in emotional healing.
- You are the expert of your own lived experience.
